Sugar Scrubs!

I have been wanting to do this craft for a long time. I just now found out that the Cute jars that I was saving for this project, got thrown out with Friday's trash! So I'm going to be on the look for more cute Jars for this idea!
Now, I have super sensitive skin, and I raiser burn easy! But I've found out that if I do this - my legs are as smooth as baby skin and no red spotted - irritated skin.

*Wash legs with loofah - any type of soap is good.
*Take my SUGAR SCRUB and rub both legs down real good.
*Rinse both legs
*Shave both legs (Note - your raiser will fill up easy, so make sure to rinse it good after every pass)
*Then rub your legs again with your SUGAR SCRUB

My idea is that everyone bring their own scented oils and we all can share and make a few different kinds each.

What you will need for the Scrub:

Your own mixing bowl (I won't have enough for everyone)
At least 3 cups of sugar
1 1/2 cup good quality oil - non-smelly
Scented essential oils - Example - mandarin, peppermint, lavender

What you'll need for the jars
- Jars (around 7-8oz)
- Cute scrapbook papers (You'll only need a tiny bit. I have some if you don't.)
- Mod Podge
- brush
- scissors

6/29/2013

Had fun at the meeting tonight. I cut my squares for my beach blanket and Liz made a cute decorative deal and a apron. It was nice to get out and have some me time. Also, my husband only called me once HAHA.
Hope there is more of a turn out next month... but still, I'm thankful that I get to hang out and gab with those that to come!

P.S.
The crochet doll that I'm working on for my daughter is getting done. I've done the head, body and 1 1/2 legs. :)

Kept some pockets

Some had zippers... pretty cool

My Lil' Miss approves lol

Making a Doll for my Daughter

I came across this idea and I loved it. My daughter doesn't have a lot of little girl toys. My friend, a while ago, gave us a few and she got so excited. Mostly about the two baby dolls she got. So that got me thinking... I've made a "Nightmare Eating Monster" for my oldest son. He sleeps with the every night. And I've also made a Palomino Horse for my second oldest boy. He's played with it so much, that I've had to sew back on his ear a few times haha.

I just imagine that my daughter has a fav toy to play with and takes ever where, and how much more special it would be for me to know that I was the one who made it for her. It warms my heart every time my two boys tell me how much they love their Monster and Horse.

This is what the finished doll will look like..... (I will most likely change the colors up a bit)

I've made things with harder patterns, so I think I should be able to get this done fairly quick. Maybe. It might take me a few nights after all the kids have been put to bed. That's when I have a lot of free time. At least 2 hours. My kids have gotten really good about bed time being at 8:00 pm - even my little 9-month old princess I'm making this doll for.

I will definitely try and post some finished pictures when I'm done.

P.S.
 - I have the last months project half way done. I've painted the two side pictures and need to start working on the large center one. Things are crazy at the house, what with work and people being sick. So the next time I have free time to go outside and paint these, I will. But as for my free time at night, I think I'm going to start working on this Doll.
I'm pretty excited about this Saturday's craft! I really want to paint on some, but I would also like to build. Good thing I have such a handy husband to help me out! Here are some of my ideas I plan on doing.
This is what I would like to paint....

I would like to do this sort of idea ------------------------>

But with this painting. This will be the picture that goes in the middle -------------------------->

And I will do this on the two side ones.... I'll try and make them opposite so that they are not both facing the same way ---------------------->

I haven't decided yet between the two ways I want to do this. I am thinking I either want to keep the wood look, and stain it - then paint the silhouettes White - Black - or this really cute Teal color I have. OR I want to paint all of the boards the Teal color I have and then paint the silhouettes black or white. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

As far as Building goes, I think I'm going to try and keep it simple and make some night stands [left] (which my husband and I need). I also would like to make a simple Skinny Table [right] to go against one of my walls that I only have picture frames on.
I think I'm going to either paint them both black, or stain them. haven't decided yet.
I'm moving my Lil Miss into her own room today!

I'm both excited and sad to have her move out... but she cant be sleeping in my room forever. This is what her bed looks like right now....

Don't judge me! We don't have a ton of space in her room. So I thought I could take out the closet doors, paint the inside and put her crib in there. Now this is NOT finished. To make it look like more of a nuk instead of a closet, I want to make something like this........

My plan is to put this in the middle of the closet and put the material around the crib so that it looks something like this....

I'll try and find some sheer curtains that are a light purple so that it will match her bedding and room. So by building this, I hope to take away the look of the closet, and hide all of the stuff in the closet. Hopefully I'll get this done today and be able to post a picture of what I come up with.
I found out what I wanted to do with the little Clay Pots I got! I'm going to make a Wind Chime!

I'm not going to do all of the different colors - just one.

And then I want to do White Butterflys on them like this...

The clay pots are too small for my boys to do them, so I will try and use my Lil Miss's feet.
I'll post pics when I finish.
So here's my new craft I'm going to attempt.
I realized I had a problem, and I thought about what I needed to do to solve that problem.

Problem...
May 31st is my 6th year Wedding Anniversary (that is deff not the problem). What I really want to do is go out to a fancy dinner with my husband. I want to look really nice... and I would really, really like a new dress to wear. But money is to tight right now to be buying a new dress. What to do? I don't want to go out in my Sunday cloths (not that I wouldn't, I just would like something new and different).

Answer...
I was looking around Pinterest, at nothing particular  and I came across an interesting pin.

I was like, "Whaaaa?" And under the picture is said -  "She refashions a goodwill $1 find every day for a year! Amazing and really cute ideas too!" and, "She refashions clothing from Op Shops and pulls it off every time!"

So I thought.... man, I'd like to see what that weird looking dress turned out to be. And....................
BAM!

Wow! I loved it!. And the tutorial seemed easy enough. I mean, I'm not a pro at sewing, but I'm not a total beginner either.

Anyways, I looked at a few more of her transformations and I got it in my head that I could do this. So I went on line and asked anyone if they had any XXL dresses I could maybe take off of their hands. 2 of my friends answered my call and dropped of a ton of cute patterned, over sized dresses.

Sooo.... I'm going to try and MAKE my dress for my 6th year Wedding Anniversary. I'm pretty excited about it really. Because if this works and it looks good... I'll transform all of the dresses I got into something new and cute for me to wear. And I could be able to make fashion inspired clothing from clothing much cheaper/free with a cute pattern. I'm not saying I'm going to stop buying clothing at stores and start making everything myself... but this could become a good alternative to where if I would like something, but can't pay for it at all... I could re-fashion older over sized cloths and turn them into my own little creations.

The only thing I'm paying for with this craft/project is my time to do it. The dresses were free, I have a sewing machine and thread, and enough basic skills (I think) that I maybe pull this off. My husband of course was a little skeptic when I told him my idea... but hey, I've done a ton of projects that he didn't really think would work out... and they did. So That's even more motivation for me. To impress him with my finished product and look smokin on our date!

I will try and post pictures of my before and after pics. If they don't work out... you'll know, because I wouldn't have posted anything haha!!!

So wish me luck!

Welp, it was a no show for tonight. Thank you Liz for trying to make it, I know you planned but an emergency came up.

BUT...........

I totally did the craft anyways! You ladies missed out on some awesome cookies! (haha, I'm just kidding, they were just frosted sugar cookies.) I'm not saying this to be mean. I totally understand that things happen. I love you all... and I hope you can make it next month!

So this is my Quiet Book I made:

Both of the folders I did were 5x8s. So when I printed my pictures, I made them on Microsoft word on 5x8 size paper. It printed on normal size paper. But this made cutting my pictures and arranging them so much easier. Because not only did I do a picture per family member... I made collages of different movie characters. What I also did was cut out a 5x8 size thick lined paper to go on the back of each picture. That way, the kids could have some free drawing space for what ever they wanted to draw.

I didn't want to label the books under each child's name because I didn't want any fighting. So I put their favorite colors on the front the folder and their picture as the first in the Quiet Book.

This is an example of one of the Disney cartoon pages I have. This one is Toy Story. What I did was search for each movie theme I wanted, and put them in a collage. I picked movies that my kids love, so I know they will like coloring on them.

This is how I attached the dry erase markers. (Mine have the erasers on the caps.) I took an elastic strip and hot glued them so there were bumps. After they dried, I squeezed the markers in to place. **Note**If you want to do this... make sure you put them more towards the left than the right... you don't want them hitting the metal clasps and making the folder shut weird.

This is a little video showing how this whole idea works (as I'm sure you could just imagine  but I wanted to put a vid on here anyways haha).

Ok.... so for next months Main Craft...

So because I was going to also use this months meeting as a general organizational meeting as well, and no one made it... I am also going to be planning and hosting May's Main Craft. I already have an idea... you should be able to see in on the left hand column. I will send invites and notices out for that date when it gets closer so that you ladies can put it in your calender.

And like I said... if you know about the meeting, and you don't want to do the Main Craft, please come anyways! It's always fun just to get together and chat for a while.
